Contexte
In line with the objectives of the « Building an Equitable and Inclusive Transformation (BEIT) » project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA), a series of workshops will be organized to strengthen national capacities and institutional coordination in key areas of labour governance and decent work in Iraq.
The workshops will focus on three priority areas: strengthening national coordination mechanisms for the prevention and elimination of child labour; enhancing the knowledge and capacities of labour inspectors on the application of Labour Law No. 37 of 2015; and supporting the review and updating of national policies and mechanisms related to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and labour inspection.
These areas remain important priorities for strengthening labour governance and promoting decent working conditions in Iraq. Effective action requires strong institutional capacities, clear coordination mechanisms among relevant national stakeholders, and a common understanding of national legislation, policies, and applicable international labour standards.
Through technical discussions, practical training, policy dialogue, and experience sharing, the workshops will provide a platform for government representatives and relevant social partners and stakeholders to exchange views, identify existing gaps and challenges, and develop practical recommendations for strengthening national coordination and implementation. The workshops will also contribute to enhancing participants’ understanding of relevant ILO standards and good practices and their application within the Iraqi context.
