Contexte

The United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries (UNTB) is inviting applications from experienced agricultural professionals for its Agriculture Expert Consultant Roster. This opportunity offers qualified specialists the chance to be considered for future technical assignments supporting agricultural innovation, technology transfer, research, policy development, and sustainable food systems in least developed countries (LDCs).

The roster is designed to help UNTB identify suitable experts when governments and development partners require specialised technical assistance. Successful applicants will be included in a searchable pool of professionals for four years, enabling the organisation to match expertise with country-specific development needs. The opportunity is remote, with most assignments expected to be home-based. Travel may be required depending on the scope of an individual assignment. However, inclusion in the roster does not guarantee employment, an assignment, or a consultancy contract.

UNTB is a United Nations entity dedicated to strengthening science, technology, and innovation capacities in least developed countries. Its work helps countries identify, adapt, develop, and scale technologies that respond to national development priorities.

Missions et responsabilités

Applicants must identify their primary technical domain and, where applicable, a secondary domain from the following areas:

  • Agricultural water management and irrigation: Improving water-use efficiency, irrigation systems, and agricultural water management.
  • Agricultural data and digital agriculture: Supporting digital technologies, agricultural information systems, and knowledge management.
  • Crop production and biotechnology: Advancing crop productivity, plant breeding, and agricultural biotechnologies.
  • Post-harvest management and value chains: Strengthening storage, agro-processing, and agricultural market systems.
  • Sustainable farming systems: Promoting climate-smart technologies and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.

Applicants must also select the functional areas in which they can demonstrate relevant professional competence across four principal functional areas:

  • Agricultural Technology and Engineering: Identify and assess appropriate agricultural technologies, evaluate technical feasibility and readiness, estimate costs, assess environmental and economic benefits, and develop technology profiles, operational manuals, and technical guidelines. Support technology transfer, adaptation, and scaling.
  • Policy, Research, Assessments and Analysis: Agricultural needs assessments, research design, data analysis, reviews of national policies, institutional assessments, and preparation of policy briefs and technical reports. Evaluate technology adoption barriers, affordability, gender inclusion, and opportunities for agricultural transformation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Development: Facilitate stakeholder consultations, technical workshops, and national validation processes. Design training programmes, develop learning materials, build partnerships, and promote South-South and triangular cooperation.
  • Project Design, Development and Implementation: Prepare project proposals, implementation plans, results frameworks, monitoring, evaluation and learning systems, and financing strategies. Support project coordination, budgeting, risk management, and donor reporting.
